Thank you for your interest in VIERS’ Summer 2008 Eco-Camps.
This is the ninth
consecutive year that Friends of Virgin
Islands National Park has supported
Clean Islands International in presenting our summer Eco-Camps.
We are offering
five three-day, two-night camps for
The program is
designed so that the campers have a lot of fun while learning about the
environment through hands-on activities and lessons.
VIERS Eco-Camps are presented to help each
student understand a little bit more about the environment in which they live
in and why it is important to each of us as individuals to protect our
environment as best as we can. VIERS and
it’s educators will help students identify what some of their daily
responsibilities are in protecting, preserving, and conserving natural
resources.
This summer we
will continue our focus on coastal ecology through interactive activities and
lessons. Our primary resource will be
the recent UVI publication “Island Peak to Coral Reef: A Field Guide to the
Plant and Marine Communities of the
Virgin Islands”, by Toni Thomas and Dr.
Barry Devine from UVI. Each camper will
receive a copy of this publication to bring home. In addition each camper will receive a guide
book on the Virgin Islands National Park and a camp t-shirt.
The
coastal ecology oriented camps are offered at no charge to U.S. Virgin Islands
residents, 7-14 years of age, and are scheduled as follows:
